Teachers’ Sharing |
With a view to nurturing students’ curiosity of science; facilitating students in conceptual understanding; and enhancing their environmental literacy, self-regulated learning and science process skills, school-based science and eLife@KYC STEM curricula have been developed with the wise and purposeful integration of technology in the alignment with (a) 5E-Instructional approach, (b) Predict-Observe-Explain (POE), and (c) Self-directed learning (SDL) strategies. |
Pedagogical framework of the school-based curricula |
In the school-based science curriculum, low-cost and student-assembled Arduino mobile dataloggers have been used during scientific investigations to help students visualize environmental data and thus, help them master difficult science concepts. POE approach has been infused in the lessons, flipped classroom, and remote laboratories to help clarify students’ misconceptions. Mobile applications have also been used to promote students’ scientific reasoning. |
In the school-based STEM curriculum, 5E instructional approach and SDL strategy have been adopted to engage students in scientific investigations and engineering designs, during which students’ positive values can be nurtured and their awareness of environmental protection and conservation of natural resources can be aroused. |
